Specialized Law Enforcement Training Your Officers Will Use on Their Next Shift

RTI trains detectives, patrol officers, and investigators in the skills that close cases including interview and interrogation, homicide, child abuse, sex crimes, domestic violence, and more. Online courses your people can take on their schedule. In-person delivery if you want RTI at your department.
The Return on Training

Send Them to Training. Get Better Investigators Back.

When your detectives train with RTI, they come back with methods that hold up in the interview room, at the crime scene, and on the witness stand. The PIRANHA methodology, the Scharff Technique, Strategic Use of Evidence. These aren't concepts they'll need to figure out how to apply. They're tools they can use the next time they sit across from a suspect.

Your patrol officers benefit too. When patrol understands what investigators need from a scene fewer cases fall apart before they start. This includes evidence preservation, documentation, and when to call in specialized resources. RTI offers courses specifically built for patrol, so the first officer on scene becomes an asset to the investigation instead of a liability.

Better trained officers build better cases. Better cases get better outcomes in court. That's what you're buying.

The Curriculum

Training Across the Full Spectrum of Criminal Investigation

RTI courses go deep on the topics that matter most to investigative units and patrol alike. Every course is built around current science, real case application, and the methodology that RTI's instructors use in the field.

Interview & Interrogation

RTI's flagship I&I training is 40 hours of science-based interviewing built for investigators. The PIRANHA methodology, Scharff Technique, Strategic Use of Evidence, and cognitive interviewing rooted in HIG research. Your detectives will understand why people confess, how to build the rapport that gets there, and how to conduct interviews that produce valid evidence.

Homicide & Death Investigation

From initial scene response to decomposition, bloodstain pattern awareness, wound identification, and staged crime scene recognition — RTI covers the full homicide investigation arc. Patrol-level courses for the first officer on scene and advanced courses for investigators who need to go deeper into cause, manner, and time of death.

Sex Crimes & Child Abuse

RTI's sex crimes course is 32 hours built for investigators handling the most difficult cases in law enforcement. Victim trauma, tonic immobility, suspect psychology, and trial preparation. Child abuse training covers burn identification, neglect, Munchausen by proxy, and CPS coordination. Both courses are Idaho POST-certified and professionally delivered.

Domestic Violence & Strangulation

RTI's DV training covers coercive control as an investigative foundation, not just incident response. Recantation-proof case building, victim psychology, and stalking coverage. The strangulation course covers anatomy, injury documentation, and the consent and self-defense claims investigators face in the field. Both are available for agency-hosted in-person delivery.

Patrol Fundamentals

Patrol officers who understand investigative priorities make better decisions at the scene which results in better case outcomes. RTI's patrol-level courses cover initial death scene response, vehicle searches, staged crime scene awareness, report writing, response to death scenes and child abuse calls. These are skills that directly support the investigative units your patrol officers hand their cases off to every shift.

From practice exam prep through full certification, officers complete the coursework on their own schedule. Every Course Ships with Documentation Your Coordinator Can Use

Every RTI course completion generates a certificate documenting course name, credit hours, and completion date. Your officers have proof of training. You have records for your files. RTI's curriculum is built to POST-certification standards, specifically, every course is Idaho POST certified and IDALEST aligned. This means the methodology, learning objectives, and assessment standards have passed a third-party review. That's a signal of curriculum rigor, not just a state credential. And we did that for our online curriculum first.

If your state requires you to independently verify and submit training hours, RTI's completion documentation gives you exactly what you need to do that. No chasing instructors for paperwork after the fact.

Group enrollment, bulk seat purchases, and in-person delivery documentation can all be coordinated through the contact form. RTI will work with you on scheduling, logistics, and whatever your department needs to get it into your training records system.

It's the format that works when you want flexible scheduling on the front end and live instruction on the back end. Available for all of RTI's full-length courses — online, in-person, or somewhere in between, RTI will make it work.

Online Courses.
Train Anytime, Anywhere

Your officers complete coursework on their own schedule, from anywhere. No travel, no hotel, no overtime to cover shifts while someone's out of town at a conference. Online courses carry the same POST-certified curriculum as in-person delivery. Most courses run between 1 and 40 hours. Individual seat pricing means you can put the right training in front of the right people without committing your entire department to a week-long block.

This is the format that makes sense when you need to train across ranks and schedules without blowing the training budget on logistics.

RTI's courses are Idaho POST-certified, which documents that the curriculum meets a recognized standard for our home state. Idaho POST is IDALEST certified and our training conforms to those national standards. Most states accept out-of-state training for continuing education credit with a certificate of completion. RTI provides everything you need to do that.

RTI's catalog covers interview and interrogation, homicide and death investigation, sex crimes, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, strangulation, patrol fundamentals, report writing, leadership, drone operations, and more. All courses available at in course catalog.

RTI is built by working investigators, not a content factory. The methodology is science-backed and court-defensible. The instructors have the case experience to back up what they teach. And RTI doesn't issue rubber-stamp certifications. If someone tries to game the course, they don't pass. That integrity matters when your officers' training records end up in a courtroom.
