Who We Are

Revelations Training & Investigations is a law enforcement training and consultation company. We provide POST-certified courses, in-person and online, and consultation services on crime scene and investigative matters. This policy explains what information we collect through revelationstraining.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

Account and Purchase Information

When you create an account, purchase a course, or register for training, we collect your name, email address, billing address, and payment details. Payment card information is processed directly by our payment processor and is not stored on our servers.

Course Activity

If you enroll in a course, we record your enrollment, progress, quiz results, and course completion status. We retain these records to issue certificates, support continuing education credit reporting, and respond to state POST audit or verification requests. See “POST Training Records” below.

Email and Marketing Communications

If you sign up for our newsletter, create an account, or make a purchase, we may send you transactional emails (such as order confirmations and course updates) and, if you have opted in, marketing emails about courses and promotions. Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribe requests are processed immediately. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We don’t like that either.

Contact Forms

When you submit a contact form on our site, we collect the information you provide (typically name, email address, agency or department, and message plus some other random things you typed out) in order to respond to your inquiry. Contact form submissions may also be added to our marketing email list so we can share course updates and training opportunities. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email you receive.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to assist with spam detection.

Media

If you upload images to the site, avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from images on the site. Just know that going in. Some courses require students to upload assignments as part of coursework or training exercises. These are stored in our database and media library. While we take reasonable precautions to limit access, uploaded images are not guaranteed to be private and could potentially be accessed unintentionally.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to having your name, email, and website saved in a cookie for your convenience on future comments. These cookies last one year.

If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, and screen option cookies last a year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login session to two weeks. Logging out removes your login cookies.

If you have a shopping cart on our site, a cookie is used to maintain the contents of your cart as you browse.

We also use analytics cookies, described below.

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Articles or pages on this site may include embedded content (for example, videos or images) from other websites. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly, and that website may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site, including pages viewed and general traffic patterns. This data is used in aggregate and is not used to identify individual visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using your browser settings or available opt-out browser extensions.

Who We Share Your Data With

We share data only as necessary to operate our business:

  • Our hosting provider, to operate the website and store account, course, and order data
  • Our payment processor, to process course purchases
  • Our email delivery and marketing platform, to send transactional and (where opted in) marketing email
  • Google Analytics, for site usage analytics
  • Cloudflare, for website security and performance
  • Automated spam detection services, to screen comment submissions

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. Ever.

How Long We Retain Your Data

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments from recognized commenters can be approved automatically rather than held for moderation.

If you register an account, your account information is retained while your account remains active. You can review, edit, or request deletion of your personal information at any time, except your username, which cannot be changed.

Course enrollment and completion records are retained for a minimum of the period required to support continuing education credit verification and state regulatory recordkeeping requirements. See “POST Training Records” below.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You may also request that we erase personal data we hold about you. This does not apply to data we are required to retain for administrative, legal, security, or regulatory purposes, including training records described below.

You may unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link included in every marketing message. Unsubscribing from marketing email does not affect transactional emails related to an active order or course enrollment.

POST Training Records

As a POST-certified training provider, we may be required by state regulatory bodies to retain records of course enrollment, attendance, and completion for audit, accreditation, or continuing education verification purposes, independent of any request to delete personal data. Where retention is legally required, we will retain the minimum information necessary to satisfy that requirement even after a deletion request.

Where We Send Your Data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Personal data described above may be processed by the third-party service providers listed under “Who We Share Your Data With,” located within the United States.

How We Protect Your Data

We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL), access controls, and a web application firewall, to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Data Breach Procedures

In the event of a data breach affecting personal information, we will investigate the incident, take steps to contain and remediate it, and notify affected individuals and any relevant regulatory authorities as required by applicable law.

What Third Parties We Receive Data From

We do not purchase or receive personal data about you from third-party data brokers or marketing lists. Information we hold about you comes directly from your interactions with our site, account, or courses.

Automated Decision Making and Profiling

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.

Industry Regulatory Disclosure Requirements

Where required by state POST certification standards or other applicable law enforcement training accreditation bodies, we may disclose attendance, completion, or certification status to the relevant agency or regulatory body for verification purposes.
